The International Journal of Canadian Studies is seeking interdisciplinary original submissions for its #63 issue to be published in May 2025.

IJCS  is a long-running interdisciplinary journal dedicated to examining Canada from the fields of the arts, literature, geography, history, native studies, social and political sciences, supported by the International Council for Canadian Studies. The peer-reviewed bilingual journal is published by the University of Toronto Press. The Journal publishes articles under its varia and thematical sections.

This 63 issue welcomes articles discussing the topic of “the margins of Canada”
This call for manuscripts is seeking original articles from across all disciplines whose research takes into considerations margins and marginality in Canada.

Topic

By the term “margins”, one can examine the geographical margins of Canada (from Atlantic Canada to British Columbia, to the Northwest territories or Nunavut) which might affect provincial dynamic, regional balance or interprovincial cooperation.
But we would also like to pay attention to groups, communities, or individuals who might feel politically or socially marginalized or who are presented as marginal in Canadian society, today or through times. On the other hand, one might also look at the dynamics of marginalization, taking into account the agency of the so-called marginalized groups.

Last, from a more artistic perspective, we would be interested in reading articles on marginal arts or artists, when marginality becomes self-exclusion, or when writing from the margins becomes an artistic statement to express oneself against mainstream society.
