Quelles ont été, quelles sont les relations entre la Bretagne d’une part, les Etats-Unis et le Canada d’autre part ? Quels événements ont réuni/opposé ces deux mondes ? Quels auteurs, chercheurs, peintres, musiciens nord-américains se sont intéressés à la Bretagne ? Quels voyageurs ? Qu’y ont-ils vu, où, quand, comment ? Quels Bretons ont été confrontés à l’Amérique du Nord et dans quelles circonstances ? Comment ces deux mondes, eux-mêmes nécessairement pluriels, pensent-ils leurs relations ? Quelles ont été leurs liens commerciaux ou plus généralement économiques ? Qu’en est-il des phénomènes migratoires d’hier et d’aujourd’hui ?

Des spécialistes de toutes disciplines sont invités à évoquer personnages, lieux, œuvres et moments de cette histoire qui reste à écrire des relations entre Bretagne(s) et Amérique du Nord.

The long-lasting and ongoing connections and exchanges between Britany and North America are central to this conference: what was/is the nature of these relations ? What events have brought together/opposed these two entities? What writers, academics, painters, musicians or other artists from North America have taken interest in Brittany? What travellers? What did they see, where, when, how? What Bretons found themselves similarly confronted with North America, in what circumstances? How are these relations envisaged? What were/are the commercial/economic relations between them? What is the history of Breton migration to North America?

Papers are invited from specialists of all relevant disciplines on all subjects related to people, places, works and moments in a history still to be written of the interaction between these two worlds.
